In the quest for beauty, breast augmentation can come with its complications.

Encapsulation, a common adversary, threatens the softness and comfort of breast implants. But what if there was a way to prevent this from happening?  Encapsulation, or capsular fibrosis, is the unwelcome guest post-breast augmentation, leading to an unfavorable shape, hardening and discomfort. It’s a scar tissue party around the implant, and it’s not the kind you’d RSVP ‘yes’ to.

Enter the hero of our story: Focused Shockwave therapy.

At Las Vegas Aesthetics, we’re turning the tide on encapsulation with this non-invasive, safe and painless treatment.  Shockwave therapy is not just for erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence anymore; it’s a beacon of hope for those looking to avoid another surgical intervention.

Prevention is key and patients with the slightest risk or those exhibiting even the earliest signs of developing encapsulation can benefit greatly with a preventative treatment series. Imagine six, fifteen minute sessions, and you’re on your way with no anesthesia, no downtime and no prescriptions. Just a quick in-office treatment that’s as comfortable as it is effective in preventing and diminishing encapsulation side effects after breast augmentation surgery.

With a success rate over 75%, Shockwave therapy doesn’t just fight encapsulation. It’s a multitasker, reducing swelling, enhancing healing, increasing sensitivity and even rejuvenating tissue.  And let’s not forget, it’s a wallet-friendly alternative to surgical revision without the downtime.  Whether you’re at the first sign of trouble or already feeling the stiffness, Shockwave therapy at Las Vegas Aesthetics offers a ray of hope.

It’s the non-invasive, safe alternative that’s changing the game in breast augmentation aftercare.

Early Treatment is Key for Preventing Encapsulated Breast Implants.

Early Treatment is Key for Preventing Encapsulated Breast Implants.

Encountering capsular fibrosis, often known as “encapsulation,” after breast augmentation surgery remains one of the most prevalent long-term complications.  This condition which typically appears within 2 years of surgery, involves the development of scar tissue around the implant, leading to hardening and discomfort in the breast tissue.

Traditionally, surgical intervention has been the go-to treatment.  However, a groundbreaking alternative has emerged—shockwave therapy.

At Las Vegas Aesthetics, we utilize Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), better known as Focused “Shockwave therapy,” a quick, non-invasive, painless treatment utilizing sound waves, renowned for its success in addressing erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

This technology, initially recognized for its efficacy in treating areas such as skin tightening, cellulite reduction, and body contouring, has shown significant promise in treating capsular contracture and avoiding potential revision surgery.  The shockwave’s ability to inhibit inflammatory processes and reveal antibacterial properties is noteworthy.

In studies, it has displayed the capacity to slow down capsular development, potentially stemming from “subclinical” or unnoticed bacterial contamination on the implant surface, thought to be the precursor triggering an inflammatory reaction, which leads to the fibrosis.

Post-surgical bleeding or fluid collections (seroma) possibly due to early drain removal can also contribute to future capsular development and should be prophylactically treated with ESWT as early as possible.

Focused Shockwave has been used on leading breast implant brands at maximum settings, assuring their safety without any harm.

Encouraged by these outcomes, patients with the slightest risk of developing capsular contracture or patients exhibiting even the earliest of signs, can benefit greatly with a preventative treatment series.

GRADING

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Baker Grading System of encapsulation is as follows.

Grade I
Breast is asymptomatic (producing or showing no symptoms).  It appears normal, is soft; the capsule is flexible

Grade II
Breast looks normal but is firm, somewhat firm / hard to the touch

Grade III
Obvious cosmetic symptoms. breast is hard and has some noticeable distortion (caused by the contracture; the breast may take on a rounded shape, or the implant has tilted upwards

Grade IV
Breast condition is like Grade III but with a greater distortion, hardening of the capsule, and discomfort or pain

Treatment Info

A standard treatment plan involves six, 15 – 20 minute sessions spaced closely together.

Typically, within 6-10 days for the complete treatment.

Out of towners, have the flexibility of flying into Las Vegas, and completing all 6 sessions within a week, and leave with no downtimes and successful outcomes.

These shorter intervals play a pivotal role in hindering the formation of immature capsules (Grade I).

Although there are many contributing factors, oftentimes complete resolution of the capsule is seen.

Treatments start at lower settings and gradually intensify over multiple sessions, this has been shown to reduce capsular contracture significantly, maintaining positive results even after three years.

Focused Shockwave therapy sessions necessitate no anesthesia or pre-treatment protocol, ensuring a hassle-free experience with no side effects or downtime.

The gradual increase in intensity is tailored to the patient’s tolerance, while ensuring comfort and optimizing results.

Experience shows that early intervention, particularly at Grade I, Grade II and early or immature Grade III capsular contracture, has shown the most promising responses to shockwave therapy.

While mature Grade III or Grade IV capsules may exhibit limited response.

Timely treatment significantly mitigates the severity of encapsulation and discomfort.

Grade III & IV might require either additional treatments (10-12) or ultimately, surgical intervention.

Benefits

Studies have shown that shockwave therapy also assists in:

  • Increased lymphatic drainage
  • Reduced edema (swelling)
  • Increased cellular metabolism
  • Rejuvenated and accelerated healing process
  • Improved tissue oxygenation
  • Promotes vascular development
  • Enhanced sensitivity through nerve tissue proliferation
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Initiates an antimicrobial capacity
  • Significantly reduces recurrence rates.

The practical benefits are equally significant.

  • Safe & Effective
  • No downtime
  • Painless
  • Quick, in-office treatment
  • No anesthesia
  • No side effects
  • No medications or prescriptions
  • Non-invasive
  • More cost-effective compared to revision surgery.

Fortunately, with a success rate surpassing 75%, improvement in encapsulation is not the only benefit to ESWT.

Whether you seek to head off and prevent a capsular occurrence or are already in need of treatment, these groundbreaking advancements in shockwave therapy offer hope for individuals struggling with encapsulation, providing a non-invasive and safe alternative to traditional surgical interventions.

Las Vegas Aesthetics continues its dedication to innovating and expanding the horizons of shockwave therapy for various medical conditions, ensuring safer and more effective treatment options for patients.
